The crossover of various sounds and a transversal and personal vision of music are the peculiarity of Bruno’s DJ sets, of eclectic sound journeys, where Black, house, techno and electronic influences coexist in a free form creating an irresistible and engaging flow.
DJ Bruno Bolla began his career behind the console in the early 80s “playing” the Afro Cosmic disco genre in some small clubs and later at Viridis, a club symbol of Milanese alternative music and an authentic laboratory of many underground realities in the city.
Between the late 80s and early 90s he became one of the originators of the house and acid jazz / Rare Grooves scenes, immediately becoming a reference figure in Italian clubbing with historic residencies such as Matmos, Kama Kama, Heads Up and Fitzcarraldo (for the house genre), Jazid, Tutti I Frutti and Jazz Cafe with acid Jazz / Rare Grooves.
Among his highlights are prestigious collaborations such as the radio programs Dancefloor Jazz (Rai Stereo2 -1995) and Cool Dance (Radio Montecarlo 1999-2004), the ten-year column Eclectic Jazz on the independent magazine Discoid Magazine, a music review column and absolute guide for various generations of DJs, even outside national borders, internationally recognized compilations such as Influencia do Jazz for Dig It International (3 volumes between 1995 and 1996), the compilations Break’N’Bossa for the nu-jazz label Schema Records (1997) Blacktronic on D-Vision (two volumes 2004-2005) and Swing It on D-Vision, as well as albums such as Neos – Indefinita Atmosfera in duo with the Nu Jazz star Gerardo Frisina and New Millenium Freaks on the English label Tirk (2010) with the Kraut/Nu-disco combo Love Supreme.
In the 2000s he was the historic resident of the Sundays of Cafe Solaire (2000-2010), an open air space that at the Idroscalo in Milan reached record attendances of over 5000 people, the first Milanese situation to boast these numbers, promoting for the first time genres such as afro deep house of labels such as Ibadan, Spiritual life, Yoruba as well as broken sounds / Nu Jazz and the most underground expressions of House and Techno.
Among his most important residences in the 2000s, we should mention those of the one night Billy Club (2000 -2012), Chandelier Motel (2001 – 2011), Lift (2000 -2012) and Heads Up (1996 – 2004), Xop (2000-2004).
He is currently the front man of the itinerant show Blacktronic (the long-awaited return on tour for the twentieth anniversary is scheduled for 2025), a format that is also a radio show, first on the historic Radio Milano International, known for being the first private broadcaster in Italy, and currently on the very popular Radio Raheem with a monthly appointment. With RMI he has participated in numerous club nights, corporate events, and a permanent residence in the Lounge bar of the Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan. He is part of the itinerant project Brotherhood, a crew of DJ-musicians devoted to the most daring and experimental sounds of house, disco Nu-disco and Afro futurism.
From October 2022, after twenty years, he returns to the Circolo Leoncavallo in Milan with Dj Bolla & Friends, a monthly appointment that boasts an average of 400 attendees in continuous and progressive growth.
Since 2023 he has been the art director and resident DJ of Disco Boogie and The Originators one night periodicals scheduled in exclusive locations dedicated to the most sought-after disco and house among classics and rare records played strictly on vinyl.
Since 2021 he has been a teacher of the DJ Fundamentals course at the Wave Academy school and since 2023 at Sound Faktory Academy in Milan where he teaches the history of the origins of dance music, Italian and international clubbing, cultures and subcultures of African American music as well as techniques with turntables.
